Dr. Wade Abbott
After completing a bachelor of science with a concentration in nutrition at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1999, Dr. Wade Abbott continued his education at Dalhousie University and completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2005. During his four years at Dalhousie, Dr. Abbott completed additional electives in dental implant treatment and studied the success rates of dental implant therapy.
Since 2005, Dr. Abbott has exceeded continuing education requirements needed for licensure. He has completed training in the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants, as well as minor bone replacement procedures. Dr. Abbott also enjoys providing clients with the latest in orthodontics (braces). He has completed numerous hours of training in the field of orthodontics. He loves how he can change someone’s smile with the conservative treatment of moving teeth into a more pleasing and functional position. He continues to push himself for the benefit of his patients. Dr. Abbott’s new focus is helping patients achieve complex rehabilitation with a multi-interdisciplinary approach. This means meeting patients’ esthetic and functional needs, in a conservative and systematic approach with the involvement of specialists within the field.
When not working, Dr. Abbott can be found with his wife, Jennifer, and their young family. He enjoys snowmobiling, camping, softball, hockey, hunting, and fishing.

Dr. Geoff W. Smith
Dr. Geoff W. Smith is a Pedodontist whose practice at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates is limited to paediatric dentistry and special needs patients. Conscious sedation with nitrous oxide and oral sedation will be offered.
Dr. Smith has been a dentist since 1977 when he graduated from McGill University. He returned to school in 1986 to specialize in paediatric dentistry and has worked in that field since then, with most of his work being at the Janeway Child Health Centre.
Dr. Frankie Mackey
Dr. Mackey was born and raised in the east end of St. John’s, and joined the team at Wade Abbott Dentistry in February 2016. He brings with him experience from his prior practices in Mount Pearl and Carbonear. Frankie obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Memorial University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie University. He is certified in conscious sedation from the University of Toronto for those patients who might be a little nervous.
Frankie is very passionate about education. Whether that means staying current with the latest techniques, or helping to educate his patients. Frankie believes in working closely with his patients to ensure they receive the care they deserve. He regularly attends continuing education classes to help provide most up to date care available and is a part of the Avalon Oral Surgery Implant study club. He is happy to walk patients step by step through their treatment plans and procedures.
Away from work, Frankie loves to spend time salmon fishing, snowmobiling, and losing lots of balls on local golf courses. Frankie also enjoys cooking, playing guitar, and singing. He is always open to new recipes or Netflix suggestions and is looking forward to meeting you.
Dr. Jessica Barron
Dr. Barron is the newest addition to Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates, joining the team in June 2016. She was born and raised in the east end of St. John’s. Dr. Barron is a recent graduate of the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at Dalhousie University. Prior to that she attended Memorial University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Biochemistry/Nutrition and a Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Secondary).
Dr. Barron took on many leadership roles during her time in dental school: president of her class each year and president of the Dalhousie Dentistry Student Society in her final year. She hopes that she can continue taking on leadership roles by getting involved with the local dental association.
In her spare time, Dr. Barron enjoys socializing with her friends and spending as much time outside as she can (if the weather permits). She enjoys hiking - slowly checking off the different East Coast Trails. Tap dancing is another hobby of hers, dancing in many shows over the past 22 years.
After many years of school, Dr. Barron is excited to join the work force and be a part of the team at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. Dr. Barron is currently accepting new clients.
Dr. Umer Shah
Dr. Umer Shah grew up in Mississauga with his parents and four siblings. He then moved to London, ON where he completed his undergraduate studies from University of Western Ontario graduating with a degree in Honors Specialization in Health Science with Distinction. Upon completing his undergrad studies he spent the next 4 years in Michigan and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) from the University of Detroit Mercy as a member of the Dean’s List. Dr. Shah traveled to Treasure Beach, Jamaica with a group of Dentists to educate, provide essential dental care and treat emergencies of the underserved population of the region.
As a clinician Dr. Shah enjoys all aspects of dentistry with a commitment to continued education. He is very passionate about providing all patients with comprehensive care to improve their oral and general health.
Dr. Shah is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Board, Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, Royal College of Dental Surgeon of Ontario, and Ontario Dental Association. In his free time, he loves to go to the gym, is a sports enthusiast, is an avid traveler and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Sarah Abbott graduated from Dalhousie University in 2012 where she received her diploma in Dental Hygiene. Shortly after moving back to her hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland, she joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team. Sarah continues to follow current trends in dental hygiene through continuing education courses offered through various dental organizations. Her caring personality is a great asset to the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates Team.
In her spare time, Sarah plays the flute in the Gower Community Band and is also a member at Boxfit.
Holly is a Registered Dental Hygienist with Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates since 2013. She has been working as a Registered Dental Hygienist for 8 years. Prior to becoming a Dental Hygienist, Holly was a Registered Level II Dental Assistant for 3 years, before she went on to study at the Canadian National Institute of Health in Ottawa, Ontario, obtaining a diploma in Dental Hygiene. One of Holly’s greatest achievements during her studies was being awarded for demonstrating outstanding qualities in leadership, scholarship, professionalism, and humanity.
Holly truly loves to see her clients smile. Sher has a very kind and compassionate nature, and cares very deeply about your oral health. She is committed to service you with quality hygiene care by addressing your oral and periodontal needs, provided through dental prophylaxis (cleanings) which aids in the prevention and treatment of oral disease. Holly wants her clients to be comfortable and relaxed when they walk through her door, and they can rest assured they are receiving top-notch dental hygiene care. Holly takes part in yearly continuing education courses/seminars to further her education.
Holly was born and raised in St. John’s. In addition to Dental Hygienist, Holly is also a certified yoga instructor, and enjoys practicing/teaching yoga regularly. When not working, she enjoys being active and spending time outdoors, as well as spending quality time with her family and friends.
Penny knew that she wanted to be in the dental field from a very young age. She grew up in a small town on the Northern Peninsula, is a huge dog lover, and practices yoga in her spare time. She graduated from George Brown College in Toronto in 2007 and is now in her 9th year of practice as a dental hygienist.
Her favorite things about working at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates are chatting with her clients, learning more about their families, and building stronger relationships with her patients. She especially enjoys teaching her patients how they can improve their oral health at home, and loves to see them asking questions and getting involved.
Nicole has been working at Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates since September 2015. She received her diploma in Dental Hygiene from the Canadian National Institute of Health in Ottawa, Ontario in 2015.
She is a member of Dr. Crivello’s Premiere Hygiene Study Club, where she continues to educate herself on the latest trends in the dental field. Nicole is passionate about her job and is committed to providing optimal oral health care to her patients.
Janette joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry Team in April of 2012. She obtained a dental receptionist diploma from Lawrence College and brings with her more than 15 years experience in the dental field.
Janette advanced from front staff supervisor to office manager in September of 2018. She enjoys new challenges and learning new skills to contribute to our teams success.
Janette was born and raised in Goulds with her 10 siblings and currently resides in St. John’s. She is happily married with 3 adult children who she is very proud of.
She enjoys spending weekends with family and friends at their cabin on Salmonier Line.
Christa Ayris joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team in September 2012, after completing a 2-year program in Office Administration Technology (Medical, Legal, Engineering, Dental) at Academy Canada, where she graduated at the top of her class.
Prior to a career in Office Administration, Christa worked for 9 years in the IT industry. Her extensive background in technology has proved a great asset for the operations at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates, which is completely digital and paperless. Her kind demeanor and keen memory of patients put them at ease and ensure they feel comfortable.
Christa is originally from Mount Pearl, but currently lives in Conception Bay South with her husband and their son.
Pamela joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates team in October 2013. She obtained a diploma in Office Administration from Keyin Technical College in 1997 and has over 18 years of experience in the field of Dental Reception.
Pamela was born and raised in St. John’s and currently resides in Mount Pearl. She enjoys spending time with her daughter, Amanda, and granddaughter, Grace.
Dawn's role at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates is administration, co-ordinator, and dental assistant for pediatric dental specialist Dr. Geoff Smith. She completed the Level II Dental Assisting course at Keyin College in 2013. Since then, she has been assisting and following pediatric dentistry from the time of graduation to current date. She joined Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates in Oct 2015. Some of Dawn's certifications include CPR C/AED Certificate, NDAEB Certificate, and Level ll Dental Assisting Certificate with Honours Recognition.
Dawn was born and raised in Burin, NL where she grew up with a family of 6, including the most amazing and supportive parents, 2 older brothers, and an identical twin sister. She currently lives in Mount Pearl with a family of her own. She have 3 beautiful children ages 6, 12, and 13 and a loving fiancé. Spare and leisure time for her consist of family walks, movies, swimming, camping, and family outings and social activities.
It has been more than a pleasure for her to be a part of Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. She loves the dental team and says that they're amazing and more then welcoming. Being a part of Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates has given her the opportunity and privilege to be able to continue work within the pediatric specialty and allows her to work with patients and their parents to get them prompt care with the upmost quality. In short, her favourite thing about her job is everything!
Krista brings over 14 years of experience to her role of working side-by-side with Dr. Abbott with patient care. She loves the opportunity to work with the leading technology that Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates has to offer its patients.
When Krista is not at work, she likes to further her education by attending continuing education courses on the island and off. She loves exercising, being outdoors, riding 4-wheelers, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing, and spending time with her husband and their 3-year old twin girls, Anna and Drew.
With almost eighteen years’ experience in the dental field, Gaylene Fitzpatrick was attracted to the impeccable patient-focused team at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. Born and raised on the Burin Peninsula in the town of Winterland, she moved to St. John’s in 1996, shortly after completing high school. She graduated from the Career Academy in December, 1998 with an Honours Diploma in Level II Dental Assisting.
Gaylene loves being a part of a caring team where patients are always the top priority. She loves the on-site lab that presents an exceptional turn-around time for patient treatment and she says the paperless office is phenomenal when it comes to professionalism and patient confidentiality. She appreciates her co-workers and is proud to be a part of such an incredible team approach.
Outside of the office, she loves to spend time walking her beagle. Gaylene is very active and loves hiking and running. She is also a Demonstrator for Stampin’ Up! and her favorite thing to do is travel.
Sarah resides in St. John’s with her parents and 3 sisters. Her parents are originally from Upper Island Cove, Bay Roberts area. She graduated form Keyin College in 2017 and soon after that became a team member at Wade Abbott Dentistry.
Sarah enjoys spending her free time with family and friends as much as possible out around the bay. She loves her 12 year old dog that she adopted in 2009 named Fozzie who was named after one of the muppets.
Nekita joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates team in October 2017, bringing with her almost 10 years of experience in the dental field, since her graduation from Keyin College. She worked in Alberta for almost 4 years, before deciding that home was where she wanted to be.
Nekita is from a small town on the Burin peninsula and knew that she wanted to be in the dental field at a young age. She enjoys the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and loves music. Nekita is expecting her 1st child in May 2019.
Susan joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team in March 2019. She obtained her diploma from Eastern Community College, Burin Campus in 1993 and immediately began working in the dental field. She has acquired 25 years of experience in the field of Dental Reception and Accounts Receivables, and the overall many tasks that dental offices require.
She was born and raised in Marystown on the Burin Peninsula, where she grew up with a family of 7 (three brothers and three sisters), with the most amazing loving parents. She has been married to her high school sweetheart Andrew for 20 years, they met when they were 16, and share a beautiful daughter Mackenzie who turns 16 in October 2019.
Susan loves to paint, craft, travel, watch movies, and spend time with her close friends. She has known and worked with Dr. Wade Abbott, at a previous office where he started his career, and now as part of his own practice and amazing team. Susan enjoys working in the dental field all these years. She loves a challenge, and especially socializing and meeting new people.
Madison joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates team in December 2018. She graduated from Keyin College in December 2018 with honors in Dental Assisting Level II. She enjoys working with the friendly staff at Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates and does her best to make her patients feel comfortable, calm, and that they are the top priority. She loves learning new things, new technology and taking continuing education courses to further her dental knowledge.
Madison was born in St. John’s and is the youngest child, with 2 older brothers. When not at work, she enjoys being outdoors, going for walks, cooking, going fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.
Sara joined Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates in October 2018 as a Registered Dental Hygienist. She graduated from Dalhousie University in 2015 with her diploma in Dental Hygiene, where she was awarded greatest proficiency in patient management and education, as well as demonstrating the greatest proficiency and creativity in community health. She takes pride in getting to know her patients and making them feel as comfortable as possible during their time spent at the clinic.
Originally from the small community of Newman’s Cove, on the Bonavista Peninsula, she started her career in the neighboring towns of Bonavista and Clarenville, and then moved to St. John’s in 2017. Outside the office, you can find Sara spending time with family and friends, at her parent’s cabin, practicing yoga or hiking with her dog Molly.
Chelsea graduated dental assisting at Holland college in Prince Edward Island in 2016 then joined the team at Wade Abbott Dentistry soon after.
Chelsea grew up and still resides in Portugal Cove, St. Phillips with her family.
Chelsea enjoys spending quiet time with her family and very special nephew Jake. She also enjoys gardening and spending time with their many animals such as dogs, cats and chickens.
Laura had the pleasure of joining the Wade Abbott Dentistry and Associates team in January 2019. She graduated from Keyin College in 2013 with honors and the professionalism award, as a Level II Dental Assistant.
In her spare time, Laura and her husband enjoy travelling and seeing as much of the world as they can, as well as spending time with friends and family.
