Dr. Wade Abbott
After completing a bachelor of science with a concentration in nutrition at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1999, Dr. Wade Abbott continued his education at Dalhousie University and completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2005. During his four years at Dalhousie, Dr. Abbott completed additional electives in dental implant treatment and studied the success rates of dental implant therapy.
Since 2005, Dr. Abbott has exceeded continuing education requirements needed for licensure. He has completed training in the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants, as well as minor bone replacement procedures. Dr. Abbott also enjoys providing clients with the latest in orthodontics (braces). He has completed numerous hours of training in the field of orthodontics. He loves how he can change someone’s smile with the conservative treatment of moving teeth into a more pleasing and functional position. He continues to push himself for the benefit of his patients. Dr. Abbott’s new focus is helping patients achieve complex rehabilitation with a multi-interdisciplinary approach. This means meeting patients’ esthetic and functional needs, in a conservative and systematic approach with the involvement of specialists within the field.
When not working, Dr. Abbott can be found with his wife, Jennifer, and their young family. He enjoys snowmobiling, camping, softball, hockey, hunting, and fishing.

Dr. Geoff W. Smith
Dr. Geoff W. Smith is a Pedodontist whose practice at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates is limited to paediatric dentistry and special needs patients. Conscious sedation with nitrous oxide and oral sedation will be offered.
Dr. Smith has been a dentist since 1977 when he graduated from McGill University. He returned to school in 1986 to specialize in paediatric dentistry and has worked in that field since then, with most of his work being at the Janeway Child Health Centre.
Dr. Frankie Mackey
Dr. Mackey was born and raised in the east end of St. John’s, and joined the team at Wade Abbott Dentistry in February 2016. He brings with him experience from his prior practices in Mount Pearl and Carbonear. Frankie obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Memorial University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie University. He is certified in conscious sedation from the University of Toronto for those patients who might be a little nervous.
Frankie is very passionate about education. Whether that means staying current with the latest techniques, or helping to educate his patients. Frankie believes in working closely with his patients to ensure they receive the care they deserve. He regularly attends continuing education classes to help provide most up to date care available and is a part of the Avalon Oral Surgery Implant study club. He is happy to walk patients step by step through their treatment plans and procedures.
Away from work, Frankie loves to spend time salmon fishing, snowmobiling, and losing lots of balls on local golf courses. Frankie also enjoys cooking, playing guitar, and singing. He is always open to new recipes or Netflix suggestions and is looking forward to meeting you.
Dr. Jessica Barron
Dr. Barron is the newest addition to Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates, joining the team in June 2016. She was born and raised in the east end of St. John’s. Dr. Barron is a recent graduate of the Doctor of Dental Surgery program at Dalhousie University. Prior to that she attended Memorial University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Biochemistry/Nutrition and a Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Secondary).
Dr. Barron took on many leadership roles during her time in dental school: president of her class each year and president of the Dalhousie Dentistry Student Society in her final year. She hopes that she can continue taking on leadership roles by getting involved with the local dental association.
In her spare time, Dr. Barron enjoys socializing with her friends and spending as much time outside as she can (if the weather permits). She enjoys hiking - slowly checking off the different East Coast Trails. Tap dancing is another hobby of hers, dancing in many shows over the past 22 years.
After many years of school, Dr. Barron is excited to join the work force and be a part of the team at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. Dr. Barron is currently accepting new clients.
Dr. Alison Papirny
Alison was born in High Level, Alberta where she lived with her family until they moved to Grande Prairie, Alberta. She graduated from the University of Alberta in 2013 with her degrees in BSc and DDS. She practiced for a few months in Whitehorse before deciding to move to Newfoundland. After falling in love with the Newfoundland people (and the ocean!), she decided to make it her home. She has been working in the St. John’s area for the last 3 years.
She enjoys dancing (she even taught dance classes while studying at the University of Alberta), running, swimming and hiking with her two dogs, Godric and Bishop. She is a part of the Spear Study Club for continued education and is also currently teaching herself to play the guitar, paint watercolor, and speak German!
Rebecca Hann, Office Manager
Growing up above your parents’ dental office in Mount Pearl, it was only natural for Rebecca to pursue a career in dentistry. After graduating high school, she received her diploma in Dental Reception before continuing on to get her diploma in Business Administration from Keyin College.
After her parents sold their practice she was offered the position of Office Manager with Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates and has been working here since 2011. She enjoys the administration portion of the business, while still being intrigued by the science of dentistry and the many different options it has to offer.
In her spare time, she enjoys both summer and winter outdoor activities with her husband and their son.
Sarah Abbott graduated from Dalhousie University in 2012 where she received her diploma in Dental Hygiene. Shortly after moving back to her hometown of St. John’s, Newfoundland, she joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team. Sarah continues to follow current trends in dental hygiene through continuing education courses offered through various dental organizations. Her caring personality is a great asset to the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates Team.
In her spare time, Sarah plays the flute in the Gower Community Band and is also a member at Boxfit.
Holly Pratt is a registered Dental Hygienist with Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. She was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Prior to becoming a Dental Hygienist, Holly was a registered Level II Dental Assistant for 3 years. She went on to study Dental Hygiene at the Canadian National Institute of Health in Ottawa, Ontario, obtaining a diploma in Dental Hygiene. One of Holly’s greatest achievements during her studies was being awarded for demonstrating outstanding qualities in leadership, scholarship, professionalism, and humanity.
Holly has been working as a RDH for 2 years, and truly loves to see her clients here at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates smile. Holly has a very kind and compassionate nature, and cares very deeply about your oral health. She is committed to serving you with quality hygiene care by addressing your periodontal needs, provided thorough dental prophylaxis (cleanings) which aids in the prevention and treatment of oral disease. Holly wants her clients to be comfortable and relaxed when they walk through her door, as they can rest assured they are receiving top-notch dental hygiene care.
When not working, Holly enjoys exercising, cooking/baking, furthering her education by attending continuing education courses/seminars, and spending time with her family and friends.
Penny knew that she wanted to be in the dental field from a very young age. She grew up in a small town on the Northern Peninsula, is a huge dog lover, and practices yoga in her spare time. She graduated from George Brown College in Toronto in 2007 and is now in her 9th year of practice as a dental hygienist.
Her favorite things about working at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates are chatting with her clients, learning more about their families, and building stronger relationships with her patients. She especially enjoys teaching her patients how they can improve their oral health at home, and loves to see them asking questions and getting involved.
Nicole was born in Labrador City, but grew up in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. She is 23 years old and has a sister, Kimberley, who is 25. Nicole completed her Dental Hygiene Education at the Canadian National Institute of Health in Ottawa, Ontario. Nicole has been working at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates since September 2015.
She plays center midfield for Kirby United Soccer team and has travelled all over Canada and even Europe for soccer tournaments. When Nicole is not working or playing soccer, you can find her at the gym, or playing with her lop-eared bunny, Rosie.
Janette joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team in April of 2012. She obtained a dental receptionist diploma from Lawrence College and brings with her more than 14 years experience in the dental field.
Janette was born and raised in Goulds and currently resides in St. John’s. She is happily married with 3 children and enjoys weekends with her family and friends at their cabin on Salmonier Line.
Christa Ayris joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team in September 2012, after completing a 2-year program in Office Administration Technology (Medical, Legal, Engineering, Dental) at Academy Canada, where she graduated at the top of her class.
Prior to a career in Office Administration, Christa worked for 9 years in the IT industry. Her extensive background in technology has proved a great asset for the operations at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates, which is completely digital and paperless. Her kind demeanor and keen memory of patients put them at ease and ensure they feel comfortable.
Christa is originally from Mount Pearl, but currently lives in Conception Bay South with her husband and their son.
Pam joined the Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates team in October of 2013. She obtained a diploma in Office Administration from Keyin Technical College in 1997 and has over 14 years experience in the field of dental reception.
Pam was born and raised in St. John’s and currently resides in Mount Pearl with her teenage daughter who keeps her busy.
Dawn's role at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates is administration, co-ordinator, and dental assistant for pediatric dental specialist Dr. Geoff Smith. She completed the Level II Dental Assisting course at Keyin College in 2013. Since then, she has been assisting and following pediatric dentistry from the time of graduation to current date. She joined Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates in Oct 2015. Some of Dawn's certifications include CPR C/AED Certificate, NDAEB Certificate, and Level ll Dental Assisting Certificate with Honours Recognition.
Dawn was born and raised in Burin, NL where she grew up with a family of 6, including the most amazing and supportive parents, 2 older brothers, and an identical twin sister. She currently lives in Mount Pearl with a family of her own. She have 3 beautiful children ages 6, 12, and 13 and a loving fiancé. Spare and leisure time for her consist of family walks, movies, swimming, camping, and family outings and social activities.
It has been more than a pleasure for her to be a part of Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. She loves the dental team and says that they're amazing and more then welcoming. Being a part of Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates has given her the opportunity and privilege to be able to continue work within the pediatric specialty and allows her to work with patients and their parents to get them prompt care with the upmost quality. In short, her favourite thing about her job is everything!
Monique's role is to attend to the needs of our patients while they wait to see our dentists. She makes sure that they are at their highest level of comfort by being courteous and effective. She has been in the dentistry industry since 2009 when she graduated from Keyin Tech, but has had a lifelong fascination with the profession and even used to try out her skills on her dolls when she was a little girl.
Monique was born in St. Anthony and has two teenaged children who she loves going to movies with and who teach her new things everyday. She also loves to read, with Stephen King's books being her favourite. She believes that going back to school after she had her two children was one of the hardest things she's had to do, but it has been one of the best decisions that she's ever made. She loves her job and the opportunities that it has given her. To Monique, a job is just not your job, it's your family.
A desire to learn the latest advancements in dental care and technology are what first attracted Krista Mallay to Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. Krista was born and raised on Fogo Island and moved to St. John’s in 2003 to continue her education. Krista has been working in the St. John’s area since she graduated with her Level II Dental Assisting diploma from Keyin College in 2004.
Krista’s interest in CEREC dentistry make her a perfect fit for our office, and her gentle nature makes her a favorite with patients and her fellow team members. Krista brings over 10 years experience to her role working side-by-side assisting Dr. Abbott with patient care. She loves the opportunity to work with the leading technology that Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates has to offer its patients.
When Krista is not at work she likes to further her education by attending continuing education courses on the island and off, exercising and spending time with her husband and their close knit group of family and friends. You may not think it when you see her, but she loves the outdoors, riding 4-wheelers, snowshoeing, hunting, and fishing.
Leona is a level 2 dental assistant that graduated the Keyin College dental assisting program with honors. She has been working in the dental field for over 10 years and continues to participate in continuing education courses every year to further her knowledge and to be able to prove the best quality care.
With almost eighteen years’ experience in the dental field, Gaylene Fitzpatrick was attracted to the impeccable patient-focused team at Wade Abbott Dentistry & Associates. Born and raised on the Burin Peninsula in the town of Winterland, she moved to St. John’s in 1996, shortly after completing high school. She graduated from the Career Academy in December, 1998 with an Honours Diploma in Level II Dental Assisting.
Gaylene loves being a part of a caring team where patients are always the top priority. She loves the on-site lab that presents an exceptional turn-around time for patient treatment and she says the paperless office is phenomenal when it comes to professionalism and patient confidentiality. She appreciates her co-workers and is proud to be a part of such an incredible team approach.
Outside of the office, she loves to spend time with her dogs and Gaylene is the current President for Greyhound Pets of Newfoundland which is an adoption program for retired racing greyhounds. She is very active and loves walking and running and she is also a Demonstrator for Stampin’ Up! and enjoys spending a lot of evening hours in her craft room.
